Legionnaires’ disease is a severe form of pneumonia caused by the Legionella bacteria, typically found in water sources such as hot tubs, cooling towers, hot water tanks, large plumbing systems, and air-conditioning systems. Each year in the UK, around 250 people are diagnosed with Legionnaires’ disease. While it can usually be treated with antibiotics, the disease can lead to long-term health problems and, in severe cases, even death.
